What is a flower CSA?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. A CSA is a model of pre-paying for agriculture goods before they are produced. Fruit and vegetable CSA’s are more well-known than flower CSA’s, but the model is essentially the same.

When purchasing a CSA you are buying a “share” of the farms harvest for that season. By pre-paying you help the farm plan for the coming season. Off-season farm tasks include crop planning, purchasing seeds and tubers, cultivating/land preparation and growing seedlings inside before planting out. There is a lot that goes into preparing for the upcoming season, and we can focus on growing when we know that the flowers are already sold.

As a CSA member you are our priority. Of course we grow extra to sell to other customers, but fulfilling CSA shares is the first goal of the season. You will always get your share, while there may not be enough to go around for other customers hoping to get our flowers.

Being in a CSA does involve some risk - as farmers we are at the mercy of nature - pests, weather, etc. We try our hardest to be successful with every crop, but there could be crop failure or other complications like flowers blooming on a shorter than desirable stem length. For this reason, we don’t guarantee that your CSA will include any specific type of flowers. We list what we are growing and plan to provide you with that, but there’s no guarantee. In the case of a crop failure we will still find a way to provide you with flowers! It just might not be the specific flower you were expecting.
